Scratch-offs & instant games
Scratch-offs are the biggest-selling lottery product in America, and a handful of states now sell instant games online through "iLottery" platforms. Odds vary by ticket and are published per game, if you know where to look.

Reading the odds on a scratch ticket
Every state lottery publishes the overall odds of winning any prize on each scratch game, usually on the back of the ticket and on the game's web page. "Any prize" often includes winning your money back, so the odds of a real profit are worse than the headline. States also publish how many top prizes remain; a game with no top prizes left is still on sale in some states.
Online instant games
Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia and a few others sell instant-win games online. They are faster, cheaper per play and easier to overspend on. We score these platforms on deposit limits, self-exclusion, published payout percentages and how clearly the odds are shown before you play.
